Being a herbalist

My philosophy is that life is to be enjoyed. It is difficult to enjoy life when a health problem gets in the way. In my practice I work to help my patients understand their health issues so they can get well, stay well and continue to be as healthy as they can. I aim to help my patients take all the measures they can to help them to enjoy as healthy life as possible. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches including herbal medicine and nutritional advice, with advice on diet and lifestyle. I have a wide breadth of expertise and knowledge to help my patients in health and healing. At a first appointment, I will spend about an hour or so finding out what their health problem is, when it started and what their health is like generally. No two people are the same, so it seems obvious to me (and other herbalists) that no two people will need the same treatment to get well. So after exploring a person’s health, I make up a prescription of medicinal plants just for that person. I use about 200 different medicinal herbs in my dispensary and every prescription is made for individual needs. We'll talk about food, nutrition, exercise, what's going on in your life and how you're coping with everything, the things you enjoy and the things you don't enjoy. I won't suggest you eat something you loathe or take some form of exercise if there is no way in the world you will do it - I'm here to help you get well, but it has to be something you can do and want to do. I am a fully qualified Medical Herbalist and provide holistic healthcare using medicinal herbs for the entire family. I work with people of all ages, from infants to the elderly. I qualified as a herbalist in 1994 and have been a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists since then. I worked in Taunton and Wellington in Somerset for over 15 years. In 2009 I moved to a village just outside Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme on the border of the three counties, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire. Medical Herbalists are trained in diagnostic skills, can use a wide range of medicinal plants, and are also able to recognise when a condition is best referred to other healthcare practitioners. I am qualified and trained to know about any potential herb/drug interactions and can advise on the safety of taking herbal medicines alongside your conventional medication. I choose the herbs in every prescription to take account of any medication a patient may be taking, or any allergies they may have. As a herbalist, the medicines I use for my patients are just herbs. I don't use animal products, and I don't use endangered species of plants, unless they are grown by specialist suppliers. I care about the environment and sustainability, so I try to limit any negative impact my practice has. To book an appointment or make an enquiry, you can me on phone 01782 750239 or 07981 235048.

If I'm with a patient when you call, I might not answer so do leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I'm free.
